Surprise: New Schools Already Behind Schedule

After a roaring sod turning ceremony season, empty fields and questions

Calgary, AB – March, 30 2015 – The PCs promised to build 32 new schools in Calgary with 22 of them scheduled to open in September 2016. According to the Province, construction of 11 of these schools was supposed to begin by March, 2015.

Last week we thought it would be a great idea to check out some of these construction sites to see how these projects were coming along.

What we found were untouched fields in Evanston, Tuscany, Royal Oak, Inverness, New Brighton and Auburn Bay.

“How is that Education Minister Gordon Dirks was so eager to stage sod turning ceremonies during the October by-election, but unable to ensure construction for these much needed schools actually started on time?” asked Clark.

“Will these schools be completed on time or are they just the next broken PC promises?”

According to the City of Calgary, building permits have only been issued for the schools in Rocky Ridge and Saddle Ridge. The rest are still “pending”.
